How it Works?

TotaLite is an innovative, low-power optical sensor capable of accurately monitoring sub-millimeter displacements of retroreflectors. TotaLite is typically used to monitor relative displacement of structures and machinery, such as tunnel convergence close to excavations. It can also be used to monitor deformations of geotechnical assets and structures due to land subsidence or construction activities.

The TotaLite system captures images, identifies the retroreflectors as target candidates and converts sub-pixel changes into (angular) displacements. TotaLite uses diffractive optics (pinhole camera) to ensure the required accuracy and long-term temperature stability. The TotaLite sensor transmits the images to a gateway over a wireless mesh network (ZigBee), from where the gateway should be connected to an internet connection (e.g. cellular router) to visualise real-time displacement graphs and provide alerts in a platform of choice. TotaLite is capable of correcting for motions of the sensors itself using “fixed” reference points and an on-board accelerometer.
